Singapore Changi Airport cargo traffic rise 7pc to 2m tonnes
SINGAPORE Changi Airport handled a record two million tonnes of air freight in the 12 months ending April 2017, an increase of seven per cent year on year. In April alone, cargo volume rose 4.4 per cent to reach 171,720 tonnes.
Airport authorities registered growth across imports, exports and transshipment volumes, with the key segments of aerospace parts, perishables, pharmaceuticals and e-commerce performing particularly well, reported STAT Trade Times of Mumbai.
In January 2017, Changi Airport became the first air cargo community in Asia Pacific to establish an end-to-end supply chain that meets IATA's CEIV Pharma requirements, to ensure a high standard for handling pharmaceutical cargo.
