Dimerco says its cross-border freight train means cost savings

TAIWAN forwarding giant Dimerco reports an increase in demand for its Cross-Border Train Freight that offers connections from China through Central Asia and Russia to Europe.

With more than seven years of experience in cross-border rail freight, Dimerco's team is ready to offer a safe and stable alternative to the traditional air and ocean shipping, the company said.

Dimerco's service which fits well in China's Belt and Road Initiative, has already delivered substantial cost savings and halved transit times for a leading construction company in China.

Using the Europe-China cross-border railway, Dimerco arranged for the transport of nine containers of high value furniture from Germany to Zhengzhou, then by road freight to the final destination in Beijing.

"The containers were only 14 days in transit, compared to the usual 30 days it takes to be shipped by ocean from Hamburg to Tianjin, while costs were reduced by an impressive 70 per cent compared to air freight," said the company release.

According to Lexi Zhang, assistant sales manager of Dimerco Zhongjing International Express Co Ltd, control of transit time and freight safety were key priorities for the project, with delivery of the cargo required within one month.

"We were required to adhere strictly to the agreed timescale for the project, which would obviously include time for customs clearance, so rail seemed ideal," she said.

"In addition, we also factored in extra loading time and coordinated the balance and weight of each container to ensure safety of the high value freight."

Ms Zhang said Dimerco coordinated all elements of the journey, liaising closely with the railway company as well as trucking partners ensuring a smooth process and delivering on site earlier than planned in Beijing which exceeding the customer's expectations. Problems were immediately addressed, and customers were kept informed at every stage, she said.

"We protected the space for the scheduled train by placing the booking with the carrier well in advance. In addition, we made sure the valuable cargo was protected by issuing cargo insurance. We monitored the customs process closely to avoid unnecessary delays.

Resourceful problem solving was deployed when a container was held up by customs in Poland. We made sure that one container did not delay the others, she said.
