Qantas to fly China Post from Shanghai, Hong Kong to US via Oz
QANTAS Freight is to airlift China Post's airmail from Shanghai and Hong Kong to various points in the US using Boeing 747-400 freighters out of Shanghai and belly capacity out of Hong Kong via Australia.
Airmail is managed by China Post and Australia Post's joint venture, Sai Cheng Logistics, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Qantas Freight currently operates four freighter services per week from Shanghai to the US, including stops in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Said Sai Cheng general manager Jonathan Qiao: "We collect more than 50 tonnes of airmail each week across China bound for the US.
"With 13 warehouses spread across eight cities in China, this partnership will strengthen our growing network, connecting Chinese consumers with the world."
Qantas Freight executive manager Alison Webster added: "We've been flying freight between China and the US for the past 14 years with a triangular freighter route that operates four times per week between Australia-China-US-Australia.
"The variety of freight we carry on this freighter network is extensive, including medical equipment, fresh produce, online shopping, mining equipment, racehorses, and even the occasional helicopter."
Sai Cheng provides an integrated logistics solution for Chinese customers to overseas markets including Australia, New Zealand, Asia, US, Europe and South America.
