EU agri-food exports up 11.3pc, hits five-year high in March
THE European Union posted an 11.3 per cent year-on-year increase in agricultural-food exports in March, according European Commission figures.
March agri-food exports came in at EUR12.7 billion (US$14.1 billion), 12.3 per cent more than the same period last year, reported American Shipper.
This is the highest monthly agri-food export value in five years, the commission said, with the biggest increases for US, Japanese, Russian and Swiss markets.
From April 2016 to March 2017, agri-food export value came in at EUR133.5 billion, a 3.6 per cent year-on-year increase.
Wine and milk powders accounted for the highest proportion of total agri-food export values, while coffee and tropical fruit accounted for the largest of import values, according to the commission.
Wheat shipments in and outbound decreased in value. Brazil continued to be the top agri-food importer from the EU, followed by the US, Argentina, China, Switzerland, Turkey, Indonesia, Ukraine and the Ivory Coast, according to EC data.
