World's largest boxships to call at Rotterdam in May and June
THE 20,000-TEU "MOL Triumph" is to call on May 19 at the Rotterdam World Gateway at Maasvlakte 2, at which point the mega containership will become the largest ever to call at the port of Rotterdam.
The major European port will over the course of the next few weeks welcome three more mega ships, underscoring Rotterdam's commitment to scale-up facilities for its container handling sector.
In June, the port of Rotterdam will accommodate the 20,568 TEU "Maersk Madrid," followed by the world's largest box ship, the 21,413 TEU "OOCL Hong Kong" that will berth at the Euromax terminal.
Rotterdam's container sector chalked up remarkable growth figures in the first quarter of 2017, with volume up 8.8 per cent year on year.
