Antonov Airlines gears up to expand cargo operations into HK and US
OUTSIZED and project cargo specialist, Antonov Airlines, is readying its aircraft fleet and boosting cargo sales operations to expand into Hong Kong and the US.
"Ukraine has developed excellent links with the US as a result of an open skies agreement that has granted Antonov freedom to operate to and from the US without the need to obtain US Department of Transport statements of authorisation," vice president Oleg Orlov said in a statement, reported American Shipper.
The move comes after the Ukrainian airline recently opened an office at London Stansted Airport, and appointed a general sales agent in Japan and Australia.
The company is a division of Kyiv, Ukraine-based Antonov Co, and a Ukrainian state-owned enterprise which designs, builds and maintains AN-freighters. Antonov Airlines currently operates a fleet of seven Antonov AN-124 freighters, each with payloads of up to 150 tonnes, as well as the world's biggest aircraft, the AN-225, which has a payload of 250 tonnes.
