Sappi Southern Africa opts for K+N to manage seafreight orders
SAPPI Southern Africa, a subsidiary of Sappi Limited, the world's largest manufacturer of dissolving wood pulp (DWP), has chosen Kuehne + Nagel to manage the company's seafreight orders.
Kuehne + Nagel's approach to Sappi's complex logistics operations is a fully integrated solution to coordinate and automate tasks that so far have been executed manually, offering a reliable coordination between orders and shipment execution, the company said in a statement.
The solution is based on the implementation of an electronic data interchange system (EDI) enabling seamless information exchange between Sappi, Kuehne + Nagel and the shipping lines. For the next three years Kuehne + Nagel will manage 80,000 TEU equivalents per year with manual data capturing being eliminated and 18.000 EDI handled per month.
General manager of Sappi export services, Morgan Moodley, said: "Since inception of Kuehne + Nagel's solution, system to system information transfer has increased, allowing for significantly reduced manual capturing in our complex supply chain operations resulting in improving efficiencies."
Managing director Kuehne + Nagel Southern Africa, Marcus Balzereit, commented: "Kuehne + Nagel is proud to partner with Sappi Southern Africa and we are looking forward to the next stages of implementation to enhance and extend our relationship further. The solution provided by Kuehne + Nagel is a clear evidence of our ability to optimise supply chains and to make use of customised, cutting-edge digital solutions."
