After 4 years and 100,000 tons plus, Fraport Speed Gate struts its stuff
FRAPORT, Frankfurt's international airport, is marking the success of its "Speed Gate" just as Lufthansa Cargo, its principal customer, has pushed its 100,000th tonne through the system at a special ceremony.
Cargo is unloaded at four automated gates at the press of a button; security checked within the gates and subsequently brought directly to the aircraft.
"When Fraport opened Speed Gate almost four years ago, the infrastructure was mainly aimed at cargo handlers without airside handling facilities," said Fraport cargo chief Anke Giesen.
"With Speed Gate today, we are helping to make the hub even faster and more agile and are pleased that Lufthansa Cargo is using Speed Gate with all of the customer benefits," she said.
