AAPA airlines' air cargo traffic surges 12.7pc in March
ASIA PACIFIC airlines achieved an overall international cargo volume increase of 12.7 per cent in March, as measured in freight ton kilometres, according to the latest data from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
The strong performance comes on the back of an expansion in freight capacity, up three per cent year on year. This equated to a 5.8 percentage point increase in the average international freight load factor, which reached 67.6 per cent.
In the first quarter, the region's carriers recorded a 9.6 per cent year on year increase in international air cargo demand, reported American Shipper.
"The outlook for air passenger and cargo markets remains positive, against the backdrop of a broad upturn in global economic conditions," said AAPA director general Andrew Herdman. "However, the airline operating environment has become increasingly challenging, with oil prices off historic lows, and increasing cost pressures due to rising input costs."
