Cosco Shipping Ports' March box traffic up 9.5pc to 8.6 million TEU
COSCO Shipping Ports' overall volumes were up 9.5 per cent year on year in March to 8.6 million TEU, despite the Bohai Rim continuing to suffer weak performance since January with volume sliding 1.9 per cent to 2.73 million TEU.
Qingdao Qianwan Container Terminal, the biggest terminal in the cluster, saw throughput drop 5.4 per cent to 1.4 million TEU, while Yangtze River Delta ports made a strong comeback in March, with throughput growing 8.2 per cent to 1.72 million TEU.
Southeast and southwest coastal ports remained on their upwards trajectory with throughput expanding 10.9 per cent to 396,300 TEU. The top performer, Guangxi Qinzhou International Container Terminal, achieved a volume rally of 15.8 per cent to 111,900 TEU.
The overseas terminals posted stellar growth of 45.1 per cent to 1.54 million TEU on the back of a recovery in global trade.
The group's Pearl River Delta ports registered growth of 6.8 per cent at 2.1 million TEU, after the Hong Kong terminals racked up tremendous growth of 56 per cent, and 45 per cent for Cosco-HIT Terminal and Asia Container Terminal, respectively.
Throughput at the Port of Hong Kong in March alone rose by 17.1 per cent to 1.78 million TEU. Volumes at the main Kwai Tsing terminals were up 18.4 per cent to 1.39 million TEU, while the other Hong Kong terminals saw traffic rise 12.6 per cent to 380,000 TEU.
