California passes highways upgrade bill to be funded by fuel tax
CALIFORNIA has passed the 10-year US$52.4 billion Road Repair Act that will raise automobile fuel taxes to finance road improvements.
The legislation will raise $5.2 billion per year in investment funding for transportation infrastructure. The tax is expected to cost most drivers less than $10 per month, reported American Shipper.
It will take 300,000 diesel trucks off the road with $700 million earmarked for mass transit to extend BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) to San Jose, 50 miles south of San Francisco.
