US transport creates 3,500 jobs in March, down from 8,100 in February
US transportation and warehousing companies created 62,000 jobs in 2016, down from a 110,000-positions in 2015.
In March 2017, the transport and logistics sector added 3,500 jobs, according to data from the US Department of Labour's Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS), down from 8,100 positions in February, but reversing the 10,200 job losses recorded in January, reported American Shipper.
Job gains in the sector during March were led by the trucking and air transport segments, which grew employment by 4,700 positions and 2,000 jobs, respectively, from the previous month.
Those increases were offset by a 2,300-job decline in the transit and ground passenger sector, a 1,200-position decrease in the courier and messenger segment, and minor drops in the rail and warehousing and storage sectors, each down 200 jobs, and pipeline transportation, down 100 jobs.
