JNPT awards US$266m dredging project contract
THE EUR250 million (US $266.3 million) contract to deepen and widen the access channel towards Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai, India was awarded to Royal Boskalis Westminster N V and Jan De Nul.
The project is expected to start in the coming weeks and is slated for completion within two years, said Boskalis and Jan De Nu. Each of the two companies have a 50 per cent share in the contract worth EUR250 million, according to American Shipper.
The joint venture will dredge the 35.5-kilometre long access channel and the various turning basins and anchorage areas alongside it. A jumbo trailing suction hopper dredger will be deployed, along with a jumbo cutter suction dredger and large backhoe.
