Houston earmarks US$500 million for new box terminal development

THE Port of Houston has now approved the design of the Wharf 3 rehabilitation at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal as well as the Container Yard 7 at the Bayport Container Terminal.

The Bayport master plan includes investments of an additional US$500 million, including new postpanamax cranes as well, the spokesman said, reported American Shipper.



The Wharf 3 design at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal will, once completed, accommodate larger ship loads, deploying super postpanamax cranes, an upgraded crane rail gauge, and faster multi-lane container transfer productivity.



Port of Houston executive director Roger Guenther said container volumes for the first two months of the year rising increased 17 per cent to 385,801 TEU year on year in the first two months of 2017.
