Marine navigation accident seminar in Singapore tomorrow March 24
THE public is invited to the Friday March 24 Command Seminar 2017 from 8.30am on avoiding marine navigation accidents to be held at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability, 80 Jurong East Street 21,
The day will also feature the launch of the Nautical Institute Command Diploma Scheme.
Among the speakers will be Capt M Segar, A/CEO, Maritime and Port Authority Singapore. Giving the shipowner's and shipmanager's perspective will be Capt Ian Offland, safety and marine assurance director, Swire Pacific Offshore and Shubpreet Singh of OSM Ship Management.
The insurance perspective will be given by Capt Yves Vandenborn AFNI, director of loss prevention, at the Standard Club and Chris Adams FNI, loss prevention director at Steamship Mutual.
XL Catlin's Cedric Declercq will provide accident statistics and findings and discuss how navigation assessments can help.
The Flag State view will be given by Capt Kunal Nakra AFNI, of the Transport Safety Investigation Bureau, who will discuss what to expect from a Flag State investigation.
In the afternoon, the surveyor's perspective will be given by Mark McGurran, LOC; Capt Yusuf Soomro FNI, TMC Marine and Capt Hari Subramaniam AFNI, Shipowners Club.
Conclusions will be published in Seaways, the institute's monthly journal, and put forward to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), to which the institute is a consultant.
