UK's port volumes drop 3pc in 2016 to total 473.5 million tonnes
THE UK's major seaports saw cargo volumes decline three per cent in 2016 to 473.5 million tonnes compared with the previous year.
In the fourth quarter, UK ports handled 117.2 million tonnes of freight, down four per cent year on year, according to data from the UK Department for Transport, reported American Shipper.
Import volumes decreased by two per cent to 73.3 million tonnes in the fourth quarter, while export tonnage fell by seven per cent year on year to 43.9 million tonnes.
