Specifics of mega alliances take shape - with one month to go before launch
WITH a month before the launch of new alliance networks, Alphaliner has started to sketch current offerings however incomplete as they stand today.
Same as last year, there are 38 weekly Asia-west coast of North America services, but a 4.9 per cent more capacity because of the bigger ships deployed.
The most hotly contested route will be the Asia-west coast North America trade where six independent carriers will also compete against three rival alliances.
From the Far East to north Europe, there will be six weekly sailings for the Ocean Alliance, made up of China Cosco Shipping, Evergreen Line, CMA CGM and OOCL.
From the Far East to north Europe, there will be six weekly sailings for the 2M alliance made up of Maersk and MSC.
From the Far East to north Europe, there will be five weekly sailings for THE Alliance made up of NYK, MOL, "K" Line, Hapag-Lloyd/UASC and Yang Ming.
From the Far East to the west coast of North America there will be 14 weekly sailings from the OCEAN Alliance with nine bound for the Pacific south west and five for the Pacific north west, provided by CMA CGM and its unit, APL.
From the Far East to the west coast of North America there will be five weekly sailings from 2M with three bound for the Pacific south west and two for the Pacific north west.

Capacity gaps resulting from the departure of Hanjin Shipping in September last year will be fully compensated by the new services, with all of the main trades showing capacity increases based on a comparison of total planned capacity in June this year compared to a year ago, said Alphaliner.
