CMA CGM to takes slots on two Europe-US 'THE Alliance' services
FRENCH shipping company CMA CGM has reached a space charter deal with THE Alliance to purchase slots on a service between North Europe and the west coast of North America that calls at ports in North Europe, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France, as well as on a service between Japan and California, both starting from April 1.
According to Agreement No 012462 filed with the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), THE Alliance will sell 350 slots to CMA CGM on each weekly sailing on its AL5 service. The number of slots that CMA CGM buys may be modified in a range of 175 to 525 without need for amendments to the agreement, reported American Shipper.
According to Hapag-Lloyd's website, the port rotation of this service is: Vancouver, Oakland, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Balboa, Panama, a Caribbean hub, Savannah, a United Kingdom port, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Le Havre, Savannah, a Caribbean hub, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle/Tacoma and back to Vancouver.
CMA CGM, which will join the Ocean Alliance that unites Cosco Container Lines, Evergreen Line and OOCL, 'may not slot charter or sub-charter slots made available to it' under the agreement, the FMC filing said.
In another development, CMA CGM has entered into an agreement to purchase 500 TEU from NYK, including 43 reefer plugs, on THE Alliance's Pacific South Loop 1 (PS1) service beginning April 1.
According to FMC Agreement No 012464, the number of slots can be raised to up to 750 TEU or lowered to 250 TEU without modification to the agreement.
The port rotation for the PS1 service is: Kobe, Nagoya, Tokyo, Sendai, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Oakland, Tokyo, Nagoya and back to Kobe.
