WTO chief says world body has means to deal with 'unfair trade' concerns
WORLD World Trade Organisation director-general Roberto Azevedo said the WTO has the mechanisms to deal with many of the "unfair trade" concerns raised by US President Donald Trump.
"I heard the US team complaining about unfair trade," Mr Azevedo said in a Bloomberg Television interview from Geneva. "Every single country in the WTO complains about unfair trade. What you do about that is the big question."
Mr Azevedo said he's waiting for details of the Trump administration's trade policy before making any judgments. President Trump has pulled the US out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and plans to open talks to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) the 23-year-old deal binding the US, Canada and Mexico. US lawmakers are also mulling over the introduction of a border tax on corporations.
"In trade, the devil is in the details," Mr Azevedo said.
