Shanghai starts 2017 with a 12pc surge in January container volume
CHINA's busiest port, Shanghai, handled 3.3 million TEU in January, a 12.2 per cent increase compared to the container throughput in the same month last year, when volume totalled 2.94 million TEU, according to data released by Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).
Last year, Shanghai retained its crown as the world's busiest container port, handling 37.13 million TEU, up 1.6 per cent from 36.54 million TEU registered in 2015, Seatrade Maritime News reported.
