Singapore port starts off new year with 5.2pc surge in box throughput
THE Port of Singapore handled 2.62 million TEU in January, an increase of 5.2 per cent from the same month last year when container throughput totalled 2.49 million TEU, according to preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.
In tonnage terms, containerised cargo amounted to more than 27.1 million tonnes in the first month of 2017, compared to 26.9 million tonnes in January last year.
Total cargo throughput at the Lion City's port soared past 50.5 million tonnes for the month of January, up 10 per cent from 45.9 million tonnes a year ago, The Business Times of Singapore reported.
