March conference on Africa ports expansion
A TWO-DAY conference is to be held in March to look into opportunities and requirements on the African continent to improve and increase port facilities to cope with increasing trade.
Africa has experienced a major surge in trade over the past few years due to the ever-growing volume of cargo across its ports. In a continent where nearly 90 per cent of international trade happens by sea, government authorities across Africa are investing millions to increase their capacity in a bid to become the region's main shipping hub.
However, old, outdated and cramped port infrastructure has become a major hindrance, which is why there's a push to improve port infrastructure and unlock Africa's full maritime potential.
Those attending the Africa Ports Expansion Conference from March 20-21 in Mombasa, Kenya, will be able to network with port authorities, port operators, ministries, EPC contractors and project management consultants to discuss upcoming projects, opportunities and requirements in the region.
Key speakers include: Catherine Mturi-Wairi, managing director, Kenya Ports Authority; Karl-Xhanti Socikwa, CEO Transnet Port Terminals, South Africa; Rev Dr Peter Issaka Azuma, director general, Ghana Maritime Authority; Innocent Ogbuji, general manager Commercial & Government Relations, West Africa Container Terminal, Port Harcourt, Nigeria; Kenneth Mwige, Secretary General, Intergovernmental Standing Committee on Shipping (ISCOS); and John Omingo, head of Commercial Shipping, Kenya Maritime Authority.
