Cathay, Lufthansa unite cargo IT and sales ground handling in Frankfurt
HONG KONG's Cathay Pacific Cargo and Germany's Lufthansa Cargo are now under one roof in Frankfurt after Cathay ground handling relocated to Lufthansa's facilities.
The relocation of Cathay Pacific Cargo's freight handling into the Lufthansa Cargo Centre (LCC) in Frankfurt is a core element of the Joint Business Agreement (JBA) that was announced in May 2016 between Cathay and Lufthansa, said a Cathay press release.
The merging of freight handling for imports and exports was concluded on January 17 and customers of both airlines will benefit, it said.
Under the deal, the two airlines will work closely working together on network planning and sales as well as IT and service expansion. Both partners plan to transport the first joint shipment on February 1 ?initially from Hong Kong to Europe. The ability to also book eastbound shipments from Europe to Hong Kong will then follow in 2018.
Said Cathay Cargo chief Simon Large: "Providing more direct connections and greater flexibility, we offer our customers in Frankfurt the same handling standards that will lead to more efficiency and time savings."
Said Lufthansa Cargo chief Peter Gerber: "This means our customers at Frankfurt are now benefiting from the advantages of our cooperation."
