Alibaba works with small forwarders to distribute products in US, UK, India
SELLERS using Alibaba will have direct access on its e-commerce platform to logistics services provided by approved international WCA forwarders, after agreeing a partnership with Alibaba.
The move that will initially be rolled out to Alibaba.com's members to the US, UK and India follows on from other efforts by Alibaba to offer sellers on its marketplace direct links to freight transportation and logistics services.
"We are committed to offering premium services to global SMEs on our platform who are looking to scale up their business presence through cross-border trading," said director of Alibaba Logistics, Steve Su.
Alibaba, which offers manufacturers and distributors based in China, India, Pakistan, the United States and Thailand a global channel to sell direct to customers, last week announced a partnership with Maersk Line to offer sellers direct booking access through its platform.
WCA is a global network that operate 6,000 offices in 189 countries. Members comprise small regional forwarders who collectively collaborate to compete with larger multinational forwarders, alleviating the need for each forwarder to have physical offices and sales teams in multiple countries, reported American Shipper.
"Many of our member companies are already heavily involved in many facets of cross-border e-commerce logistics," said WCA's chief executive officer, Dan March. "The strict qualification process for our newly formed WCA e-commerce network will provide reassurance that the services provided by our members can facilitate merchants on Alibaba.com to accelerate their global trading."
