Savannah November volume up 6.5pc to 300,671 TEU, total cargo rises 2pc
THE Port of Savannah posted a 6.5 per cent increase in year-on-year November container volume having lifted 300,671 TEU.
"Last month capped an active peak season, with November import and export cargo growing significantly," said Georgia Port Authority (GPA) executive director Griff Lynch.
"An increasing demand for America's exports abroad and strong consumer confidence here at home are helping to boost cargo throughput," Mr Lynch said.
Measured in laden boxes total trade increased 11 per cent in November. For the month, the Port of Savannah handled 246,877 laden TEU, a record. Loaded export containers totalled 107,145 TEU, up 10 per cent. Laden import boxes grew 12 per cent to reach 139,732 TEU.
From September through November, the GPA moved nearly 920,000 total TEU.
Total cargo across all GPA docks in November reached 2.55 million tons, up two per cent, or 46,000 tons. Of that figure, container tons totalled 2.25 million tons, with breakbulk at 198,596 tons and bulk cargo totalling 100,802 tons.
