Eurotunnel increases cross channel truck rates to 3pc from January

GREATER freight volume through the Eurotunnel has resulted in more rate increases in 2017 as high-demand premium extends from 39 to 83 days, reports Lloyd's Loading List.

Tariffs for trucks and smaller commercial vehicles published on www.eurotunnelfreight.com from January announce rate increases from 1.7 per cent to almost three per cent.

The fixed link cross-Channel operator is also more than doubling the number of peak traffic days next year on 2016 when premium rates for freight vehicles apply on high-demand days.

A recent report by Ernst & Young highlighted just how vital a link Eurotunnel had become in cross-channel trade, particularly for the express distribution sector, just-in-time production industries such as automobile manufacture and for shipments of fresh food, appearing to quash any concerns over Brexit.

Said Eurotunnel CEO Jacques Gounon: "Until now, our policy has been to set the annual price increase at the rate of inflation plus one per cent. It will be a little bit more than that in the coming years."
