Hamina-Kotka port sees January-November box traffic rise 14.6pc
CARGO throughput at the port of Hamina-Kotka rose by 2.2 per cent year on year between January and November to 12.11 million tonnes, on the back of 14.6 per cent growth in container volumes to 578,062 TEU.
Within the cargo throughput, exports were up by 1.6 per cent over the same period a year earlier to 8.65 million tonnes, while volume imports rose by 3.5 per cent to 3.46 million tonnes, reported Maritime Herald.
In November, the port handled 1.14 million tonnes of cargo, including 737,000 tonnes of exports and 407,000 tonnes of imports. Container throughput amounted to 53,216 TEU.
Located 50 kilometres from the Russian border and 280 km from St Petersburg, the port serves as an important cargo hub for Finland. It includes ports Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama.
