Atlas Air to operate B747F for Nippon Cargo Airlines on Asia-US routes
ATLAS Air has landed a contract to operate a Boeing 747-400 freighter on behalf of Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) on transpacific routes linking Asia with the US, starting from the New Year.
While this aircraft represents the first to be operated by the lessor on behalf of the Japanese freight carrier, Atlas pointed out that there is an opportunity for additional aircraft to join the arrangement in the future, reported London's Air Cargo News.
According to chief executive William Flynn of parent company Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Atlas Air will manage "an important part" of NCA's international network and will provide the airline with a "platform for future expansion."
NCA chief executive Fukashi Sakamoto said he hoped that it would be "a long, mutually beneficial relationship" with Atlas.
In October this year, AAWW placed an order with Boeing for the manufacturer to convert nine B767 passenger aircraft into Boeing converted freighters (BCFs).
In November Atlas reported in its third-quarter results improving demand for air cargo services on most trade lanes in the peak season.
Atlas Air earlier in the year won a five-year deal to provide FedEx with five B747-400 freighter aircraft to cover extra demand during the peak shipping season between 2017 and 2021.
