NYK awards scholarships to 78 mainland maritime university students
NYK has offered scholarships to 78 outstanding Chinese students at universities in the Chinese cities of Dalian and Shanghai in November, marking the 16th consecutive year that the Japanese transportation giant has demonstrated its corporate social responsibility (CSR) by supporting maritime education programmes.
Forty-two students from the Dalian Maritime University (DMU) were recognised for their academic excellence and fine demeanour at a scholarship presentation ceremony attended by NYK corporate officer and chief representative for China, Yuji Isoda, and vice president of DMU, Pan Xinxiang.
"I believe that mutual understanding and toleration are ultimate features of a quality education, and campus life in university is the best period to cultivate such a spirit," said Mr Isoda at the ceremony.
At another awards ceremony held at the Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) 36 students were handed their scholarships by Mr Isoda. Vice president of SMU, Shi Xin, expressed his appreciation and respect for NYK's long-term support, particularly during years when economies and the maritime industry were struggling.
Since 2001 the shipping group has awarded scholarships to 974 students at SMU and DMU, a statement said.
