Macau becomes air cargo hub for Malaysia and PRD
MACAU International Airport (MIA) has become a 'strategic platform and hub' for air cargo between Malaysia, the Pearl River Delta and Southern China, the Macau Business Daily reported.
This follows an agreement between MIA and DRB-HICOM Asia Cargo Express Sdn. Bhd. (DHACE) which came into effect yesterday.
The first scheduled air freighter took off making Macau the 'first strategic springboard' for DHACE to enter Southern China, transporting mostly Malaysian seafood, halal food, processed food and seasonal fruit as well as exported goods such as e-commerce commodities destined for Southeast Asia and the Middle East via Malaysia.
"The launch of the air freight service not only enriches the network development of Macau and Southeast Asia in air logistics field, [but] also facilitates Macau to be a significant aerial port of Southern China," an MIA statement said.
