China Railway Express for transporting freight to Europe draws positive response
THE direct freight train service connecting China and Europe, officially known as 'China Railway Express', has been well received by international logistics companies.
Speaking at the Harbours 360 Conference held in Duisburg, Germany, CEO Thomas Kargl of Russian logistics provider Far East Land Bridge, said China Railway Express "is a reliable logistic solution for the future, which has been acknowledged and accepted by the market," reported Xinhua.
"Our company expects to reach the freight volume of 200,000 TEU with the Express this year, and plans to make it 350,000 TEU next year," said Mr Kargl.
CEO Mamuka Baktadze of Georgian Railway told Xinhua the China Railway Express helps increase trade volumes between the countries along the route. He said Georgia is taking part in the 'One Belt and One Road' initiative spearheaded by China. "We look forward to utilising the opportunity to modernise our infrastructure and provide our clients better services," said Mr Baktadze.
Having witnessed the Express's developments in recent years, president of Duisburg port, Erich Staake, was quoted as saying the Express under the One Belt and One Road initiative is "changing the world of logistics and industrial activities."
"The first train from China's Chongqing to Duisburg five years ago took 19 days en route, now it's only 11 to 12 days with over 20 trains each week," he said. "We want to make Duisburg one hub of the (One Belt and One Road) initiative."
