Shanghai's PACTL achieves record 1.35m tonnes from Jan-Oct
PUDONG International Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd (PACTL) ?the largest provider of air cargo handling services at Shanghai Pudong airport ?handled a record 153,607 tonnes in October, an increase of 8.9 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier.
In the first 10 months of the year, PACTL's total tonnage rose by 3.2 per cent year on year to 1.35 million tonnes, marking the strongest January-October result in the cargo terminal's history, reported Payload, Asia.
PACTL's domestic cargo volumes increased by 12.2 per cent year on year to 9,480 tonnes in October, while international cargo was up 8.7 per cent to 144,127 tonnes. Between January and October, domestic cargo volumes grew by two per cent to 86,880 tonnes and international cargo increased by 3.3 per cent to 1.27 million tonnes.
Imports grew by 12.1 per cent to 62,360 tonnes in October and exports rose by 6.9 per cent year on year to 91,247 tonnes. During the first ten months of the year, overall imports increased by 5.3 per cent to 561,145 tonnes, while exports increased by 1.8 per cent to 792,824 tonnes.
"We managed to significantly grow our international imports and domestic exports in the last couple of months," vice president of PACTL, Lutz Grzegorz, was quoted as saying. "This is mainly due to the fact that the demand for high-value consumer goods picked up again.
"We noted that long-term but also new customers increasingly request our new cool chain facility, continuously developing their range of products in collaboration with PACTL. In line with this positive trend we are confident to achieve another annual record by the end of 2016," he added.
