Florida's Jaxport sees annual box volume rise to record 968,279 TEU
FLORIDA's Port of Jacksonville (Jaxport) handled a record 968,279 TEU during the fiscal year ending September 30, 2016 on the back of 19 per cent growth in Asian container volumes, which totalled 336,791 TEU.
The Asian container trade accounts for 35 per cent of Jaxport's total container volumes and continues to be the fastest growing segment of the port's container business.
The expansion of existing and new services calling on Jaxport's Blount Island Marine Terminal, including that of the newly added 2M Alliance of Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) contributed to growth in the Asia trade.
Jaxport achieved its 16th straight year of operating revenue growth, with revenue up six per cent compared with the previous year to reach US$59.7 million.
