NYK ship rescues 9 fishermen off Indonesia after fishing boat sinks

NINE people have been rescued at sea off the coast of Indonesia by bulk carrier, Kurushima, operated by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK Line.

The NYK vessel's crew rescued the fishermen one nautical mile from their sinking ship and provided them with food, fresh water and blankets before taking them to shore in Belawan, Indonesia under the direction of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.



The Kurushima was sailing from India to Japan when the incident happened on August 31, with a crew of 22 Filipino seafarers led by Captain Bertiz Bernaldd, an NYK statement said.
