SSI calls on IMO to show leadership in fighting global warming
THE Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI), a corporate environmental lobby, set out what it wants to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in shipping.
"SSI calls on IMO and member states to show urgent leadership to ensure shipping industry contributes to global below two degrees warming targets in line with Paris Agreement." said the group.
"All organisations and member states represented at MEPC must demonstrate a commitment to the Paris Agreement's objective of keeping global warming below two degrees," said the SSI press release.
"This can be achieved by adopting a detailed IMO roadmap for establishing shipping's fair share of global emission reductions to be decided on at MEPC 70." it said.
