In-house researcher sees good times ahead for Nippon Express after slump

JAPAN's Nittsu Research Institute and Consulting (NRIC), the research house affiliated with Nippon Express, predicts the Japanese air cargo volumes will grow for the first time in two years.

Nippon Express, Japan's biggest forwarder, has suffered a 6.7 per cent year-on-year decline, but is now expected to join in the national sector-wide growth of 1.3 per cent to fly two million tonnes in fiscal year 2016.

Air cargo exports are expected to total 972,300 tonnes in 2016, an increase of 2.7 per cent year on year, NRIC said, reported IHS Media. Air cargo imports will rise 0.1 per cent to one million tonnes, the study said.

Air cargo exports in 2015 fell 8.5 per cent year on year to 946,600 tonnes, and imports were down 5.1 per cent to one million tonnes.

Global air cargo traffic grew at the fastest pace in almost 18 months in July, the most recent month for which data is available, according to International Air Transport Association.

Traffic at Asia-Pacific airlines in July rose 4.9 per cent because of strong increases in intra-Asia trade, IATA said.
