Canada launches known shipper system under Air Cargo Security Programme
NEW requirements for cargo loaded onto passenger aircraft are to be implemented by Transport Canada, effective from October 17.
Under the Air Cargo Security Programme, existing registered shippers with updated Air Cargo Security (ACS) files will automatically receive Account Consignor status. Air freight originated by Account Consignors are to be screened prior to loading.
Shippers in Canada also have the option to apply for Known Consignor status. Cargo from these consignors will be treated as secure provided the chain of custody is maintained and the cargo can be loaded without extra screening, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Shipments from unknown consignors, who are shippers that lack either Known Consignor nor Account Consignor status, will not be loaded on passenger aircraft unless additional security measures are taken.
