Ballast water management convention November 9-10 in Antwerp
EUROPE's Ballast Water Management Conference 2016 will be held November 9-10 in Antwerp to discuss the gathering's theme the "Approaching Enforcement of BWM ConventionPractical Steps On Regulations.
The IMO Ballast Water Convention is on the eve of entry into force. With Belgium recently ratifying the convention, the convention is now only 0.18 per cent away from reaching the required 35 per cent Global Tonnage remaining to be signed.
Senior industry officials are suggesting that the convention is imminent with rumours of Panama and Finland ratifying in the near future. Once ratified, shipowners will be required to implement BWT Systems on vessels.
It is estimated that over US$45.6 billion will be spent in the five years following enforcement. The cost, installation and operation of BWT Systems is of serious concern to the industry, as well as the availability of USCG Type Approved BWT Systems and regulation.
ACI's 16th Ballast Water Management Conference will provide essential, expert guidance to owner/operators on how to prepare for and manage the BWT Systems in terms of installation and technical operations, as well as advice on compliance, PSC, USCG and IMO regulation once the convention is in place.
