Manila South Harbour handles record 100,000 TEU in September
MANILA South Harbour, operated by Asian Terminals Inc (ATI) and one of two international gateway ports in the Philippines capital, handled a record 100,000 TEU of international containers in September.
According to ATI, its Manila South Harbour is more than ready to handle growing international container volumes, including this quarter's cargo rush in the run-up to the holiday season, reported the Manila Times.
Manila South Harbour's production has averaged above the industry standard of 25 gross moves per crane per hour (GMPH), and even achieved world-class levels of over 30 GMPH in previous months, which are comparable to the production of leading global ports in Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong, the company said.
The listed port operator partly attributes these achievements to the highly effective Terminal Appointment Booking System (TABS), an online scheduling facility for the orderly delivery and pull out of containers at the terminal.
Since TABS' implementation, Manila South Harbour has been able to handle a 25 per cent increase in truck transactions from a daily average of 1,600 with faster turnaround times.
Aside from this, ATI has been investing heavily in equipment to boost container handling and efficiency. Next year, the port will receive two new quay cranes and other operations critical cargo handling equipment, as well as see the completion of additional container yards.
