Sydney's Botany Bay throughput rises 2.4pc in July to 198,012 TEU
PORT Botany in Sydney handled a total of 198,012 TEU in July, representing an increase of 2.4 per cent year on year, or 4,719 TEU more over 2015.
A breakdown of the results shows that the port handled in July 55,467 TEU of empty containers and 142,545 TEU of full containers, reported port officials.
In terms of container exports, the port handled 54,552 TEU of empties and 42,167 TEU of laden boxes. Overall full export volume rose 14 per cent year on year, an increase driven mainly by paper, logs and cotton.
A total of 101,293 TEU was imported through the port, comprising 915 empty and 100,378 full. Overall, full box imports rose by 3.3 per cent due to more imported electrical items and miscellaneous manufactured articles such as tiles, furniture and other consumable products.
By far the most significant source for imports in July was East Asia; a total of 47,557 TEU originated in the region, representing year on year growth of six per cent.
East Asia was also the main export destination for containers out of port Botany despite volumes falling slightly by 680 TEU to 40,242 TEU.
