GERMANY's DHL Express has opened a EUR2 million (US$2.2 million) 1,353-square metre Jakarta airport facility to support the growing trade with Indonesia, the company announced
The world's leading express service provider has launched its Jakarta Gateway 530 at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
It is designed to support businesses in and out of Indonesia and operates in addition to the old Jakarta Gateway which has been running at full capacity in recent years.
With the ability to manage twice the number of containers as compared to Jakarta Gateway 510, the new state-of-the-art unit has the capacity to handle up to 20 million kilogrammes of shipments and process two million shipments per annum.
The new facility employs 75 people including nine dangerous good certified staff to ensure shipments processed by DHL Express meet IATA standards.
Said DHL Express Asia Pacific CEO Ken Lee: "This new facility allows DHL to continue supporting the growing export and import needs in Indonesia by providing greater access to international markets."
Mr Lee said small and medium sized companies play a vital role, contributing 57 per cent of Indonesia's GDP.
The Jakarta Gateway 530 is equipped with advanced equipment such as a Dual View X-Ray security screening, heavy duty x-ray security, and an explosive trace detector system to ensure the safety and security of each shipment.
