Davies Turner apprenticeship scheme held for 7th successive year

UK INDEPENDENT forwarder Davies Turner & Co Ltd has recruited apprentices for its two-year trainee scheme for the seventh year in a row.

The company has increased the number of recruits every year since it became an early adopter of the revitalised apprenticeship concept in 2010.

This year will see a record number of 15 trainees starting this month at the company's main freight hubs throughout the UK. Most are either A-level school-leavers or graduates.

The new apprentices will learn all aspects of Davies Turner's business during the two-year apprenticeships and can be confident that like many of their predecessors they can progress into management and supervisory roles, according to a company statement.

The company's National Apprenticeship programme lasts 20 months, and participants spend time in all surface freight and logistics divisions, as well as getting an overview at Davies Turner Air Cargo, central administration, IT and the accounts departments.

Davies Turner Group chairman, Philip Stephenson, said: "Our trainee programme is clearly flourishing and we have an excellent retention rate at the end of each programme, partly because of our mentoring system and determination to open up interesting and responsible career opportunities for the trainees at the end of their apprenticeships.
