Special arrangements set for Hong Kong-Macau yacht races September 16

THIRTY sail boats are expected to take part in races between Hong Kong and Macau, from Friday September 16 to Sunday the 18th.

Those in charge of vessels in the vicinity should proceed with caution, giving practical consideration to the contestants.

"Compliance with the provisions of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 is mandatory," said the Hong Kong Marine Department.

The outbound trip from Hong Kong to Macau will start at 1000 hours on September 16 in an area south-east of Lamma Island (in the vicinity of Yuen Kok Light).

Organisers say that depending on the weather conditions competitors can take a westerly route through south of Lamma Island, south of Tai A Chau, thence to Macau if the wind is coming from the north, or they can take a south-westerly route through the southern boundary of the Hong Kong and then to Macau if the wind is coming from the south.

The return trip from Macau to Hong Kong will start at 1000 hours on September 18 and the yachts can take a route through south of Tai A Chau and to complete the race at a position east of Cheung Chau if the wind is coming from the north, or sail along a route through south of Xiaozhi Zhou, the southern boundary of the Hong Kong and to complete the race at a position east of Cheung Chau if the wind is coming from the south.
