Mile of Houston channel closes due to tanker fire, bunker oil spill
THE West Gulf Maritime Association has advised that the Houston Ship Channel has been shut to all traffic over a stretch of nearly a mile from the Cargill Facility up to the Cemex Docks following a fire on the Panama-flagged 107,132-dwt Aframax River that led to a bunker oil spill.
The incident, reported GAC Hot Port News, occurred at the Intercontinental Terminals Company at Buffalo Bayou, Texas. A security zone was established in the channel at 12:25 am local time (05:25 GMT) while investigations are carried out. The reopening of the channel will depend on the results of inspections.
