Ex-Asia air cargo rates down 20pc in first 7 months, but stablising in July
AIR freight rates out of the Asia Pacific region fell 21 per cent year on year in the first seven months of 2016, but stabilised in July, according to Amsterdam data specialist WorldACD figures.
Yields were stable month to month with only Europe and North America showing weakening margins from June, with all other areas showing slight increases, reports Lloyd's Loading List.
Yields dropped least in Central and South America (-3 per cent) and Africa (-5 per cent), WorldACD said.
In tonnage, there was 1.8 per cent growth worldwide in July, noting that June's growth performance was less strong than the three per cent upswing witnessed in June.
While the southern hemisphere origins of Africa (-1.2 per cent) and Central and South America (-1.8 per cent) suffered volume declines, other origin areas showed growth ranging from 0.2 per cent in Europe to 3.7 per cent in Asia Pacific.
"The latter looks to be on its way to reclaim the position of air cargo's engine, as Europe is losing a bit of its recent lustre," said WorldACD.
Taking a look at individual markets, 21 of the Top-100 show year-on-year growth of more than 10 per cent in the year so far.
