Illegally exporting gun parts lands US man with 3-year prison term
A US resident has received a three-year prison sentence in Massachusetts for illegally shipping US$100,000 worth of components for assault rifles, handguns and machine guns to 20 countries worldwide, including France, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia and Germany.
Prosecutors said the gun parts that 60-year-old David Maricola of Southbridge, Massachusetts shipped were used in two gang shootings in Finland, one of which was fatal, reported The Associated Press.
They claimed Mr Maricola mislabelled customs forms when shipping parts to say they were for replica guns or were "aluminum sculptures."
Mr Maricola had previously pleaded guilty to charges, including conspiracy, exporting gun components, making false statements on customs forms and money laundering.
