US eco rule orders fuel efficient trucks into existence using aluminum
NEW environmental regulations to boost fuel economy in US trucking by ordering more fuel efficient trucks into existence have been adopted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The new rule orders trucking efficiencies to improve up to 25 per cent by 2027 in an effort to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from freight transport, reports Bloomberg.
Aluminum components including wheels, extrusions, and sheet have cited as part of the lightweighting solution to help move freight with less fuel and fewer emissions.
Already, the aluminum industry plans to work closely with manufacturers and suppliers on cost-effective vehicle mass reduction and freight efficiency solutions which can meet the new standards, starting with the 2018 model year.
