British truckers increase heavy goods vehicle efficiency 2.8pc in 2015
BRITISH truckers achieved a 2.8 per cent improvement in heavy goods vehicle (HGV) efficiency last year, having already gained a 20 per cent increase in efficiency in the last 10 years, said a Department for Transport (DfT) report.
The DfT road freight activity statistics for 2015 show the amount of goods transported on the UK's roads were up 12 per cent last year, but the logistics industry was able to achieve this with just a nine per cent increase in HGV use, reported Lloyd's Loading List.
'HGV use was already incredibly efficient, as being able to fill vehicles as much as possible is key to making a profit or keeping costs low," said Freight Transport Association (FTA) policy chief Christopher Snelling.
"But as people and businesses across the UK demand more, the industry has continued to find increasingly efficient ways of meeting this need," he said.
