Marseilles Fos box volume rises 12pc to record 112,768 TEU in July
THE Port Marseilles Fos handled 112,768 TEU in July, a 12 per cent increase from the same month last year, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
The port said that general cargo in July totalled 1.6 million tonnes, an eight per cent year-on-year growth, with box throughput in tonnage terms rising 11 per cent to more than one million tonnes.
Traffic through the Fos deepsea container terminals is now four per cent ahead on the first seven months of last year, while the Terminal de Mediterranee in Marseilles set a July record for its container activity.
The French port said that July results were exceptional by handling 7.8 million tonnes of cargo and 387,000 passengers - up by 18.6 per cent and 13 per cent respectively on the same month last year.
Liquid bulks were 26 per cent better at 5.1 million tonnes. Oil and gas volumes rose 28 per cent to 4.8 million tonnes, which included crude imports up 41 per cent on three million tonnes and LNG soaring 71 per cent to 0.62 million tonnes. Liquid chemicals and agro-products increased by four per cent increase to 0.35 million tonnes.
