Food Storage Distribution Federation warns of trucker shortage
THE British Food Storage and Distribution Federation (FSDF) has warned of a truck driver shortage that will lead to higher haulage prices as current efforts to attract personnel are not working.
This follows the House Of Commons Transport Select Committee's report saying "current recruitment and training measures are falling short and won't prevent the impending shortfall of goods vehicle drivers in the road haulage industry".
Said FSDF chief executive Chris Sturman: "A united approach is required to ensure the government and public understands the very real risks the country faces.
"There has been little change in the diversity of drivers and the image of the profession is still white, male, and middle-aged," he said.
